The East Texas Literacy Council's annual fundraiser, the BEE for Literacy!, is held on the second Wednesday of June each year.Three person teams from area businesses and civic groups compete against each other to raise funds to support the work of the Council. Tickets are sold at Barron's Books and Texas Bank and Trust branches in Longview.
The BEE for Literacy 2011 marked the 20th annual event! The winning team represented the Rotary Club of Longview and included Gene McWhorter, Gordon Northcutt, and Rick Brack. Congratulations to this repeat winning team! Pine Tree ISD won the coveted spirit stick. The Longview News-Journal was awarded the Golden Hive for her history of support of literacy through ETLC and the BEE.
