Welcome to the East Texas Literacy Council!
We are a nonprofit 501c(3) community based organization dedicated to changing lives through literacy. ETLC provides a variety of services to enable adult learners to achieve personal goals and self-sufficiency through literacy.
Free one-to-one and small group instruction is offered to adults and out of school youth who need basic literacy skills (reading, math, writing, and pre-GED), and English as a Second Language (ESL) skills. Our computer learning labs offer individualized instruction in basic literacy and ESL.
Community volunteers are valued as one-to-one tutors with adult learners. Each year training is given to adults who desire to work with adult learners and help them reach their personal literacy goals.
The ETLC's Computer Learning Center and main office are located in the Longview News Journal Building, 320 East Methvin in Longview. Church partners in Longview and Kilgore provide sites for ESL classes and computer-assisted ESL instruction.
For twenty-four years ETLC has worked to help adults of Gregg County improve their lives, the lives of their families, and community by improving their literacy skills!

"I have been working for the same company for 22 years and have always wanted to be able to use my reading and writing on my job. Now that is becoming a reality for me thanks to the Literacy Council and my tutor. When my two children were young, I was never able to read a book to them. Now I can read to my youngest son and that is a great feeling! " -- Paul, ETLC Student
