The East Texas Literacy Council has been a wonderful part of my life. I actually dropped out of school to work and help my mother out when she was going through a divorce. I had always wanted to go back and get my GED, especially when I started having kids and also to better myself. But I didn’t want my kids to get up in age and say, “Well, Daddy never graduated.” I don’t want them to think that it’s ok to just drop out of school.
As I had more children, I started needing more money. I had plenty of great job opportunities, but they would all say, “You need a high school diploma or GED.” So, I had better do better for myself, my wife, and 3 babies.
I didn’t know what I was going to do. Then, I heard of the ETLC. The teachers here are great and believe in me when I didn’t believe in myself. They stuck with me until the end and then some. ETLC is a great place for anyone who is willing to learn. I promise that just coming here is the next step to a life long career or just to make you feel complete like I do now. I really appreciate everyone here and what they have done for me.
